Enhanced ICDP Rolls for Demanding Finishing Applications
LONSUN supplies Enhanced ICDP rolls for hot-strip finishing and selected high-speed flat-product duties. Selection is based on stand position, strip surface requirement, hardness, current ICDP performance, thermal conditions, campaign target and grinding practice.
Discuss Your Enhanced ICDP Roll RequirementEnhanced ICDP rolls develop the conventional ICDP concept with a bainitic and martensitic matrix containing Fe3C and MC carbides together with fine free graphite. Double tempering is used to control retained austenite, hardness and residual stress. The upgrade should be evaluated against a defined conventional-roll baseline.
Enhanced ICDP Applications and Selection Basis
Enhanced ICDP is intended for duties where conventional ICDP performance needs improvement without ignoring thermal stability, strip surface and mill risk.
| APPLICATION AREA | TYPICAL POSITION | COMMON REQUIREMENT | DATA TO REVIEW |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hot strip mills | Finishing work-roll stands | Improve wear stability and strip-surface consistency | Stand, strip grade, speed, load, crown, cooling, roughness and current campaign |
| Flat-product lines | Selected roughing or intermediate work-roll positions | Balance improved wear with thermal and incident margin | Stand duty, reduction, temperature, cooling, cobble history and current roll |
| High-speed rolling lines | Positions targeting longer useful campaigns | Retain hardness and profile under demanding rolling cycles | Speed, product mix, thermal cycle, wear map, grinding and NDT history |
A longer campaign is only meaningful when tonnage, diameter or radial loss, grinding stock, abnormal-event loss and strip-quality impact are compared on the same basis.
Material Structure and Technical Reference
The published EN-ICDP chemistry adds carbide-forming elements to the high-nickel ICDP direction. Chemistry, microstructure, hardness, working layer and residual-stress control must be treated as one specification.
Chemical Composition
| Symbol | C | Si | Mn | Cr | Ni | Mo | V | W | Nb |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| EN-ICDP | 2.90-3.60 | 0.60-1.50 | 0.40-1.20 | 1.00-2.00 | 3.01-4.80 | 0.20-2.00 | 0.20-2.00 | 0.00-2.00 | 0.00-2.00 |
Physical Properties
| Symbol | Barrel Hardness | Roll Neck Hardness | Tensile Strength |

| EN-ICDP | 77-85 HS | 32-45 HS | ≥400 MPa |
Published values are reference ranges. Confirm hardness scale and location, working layer, shell/core inspection, microstructure, NDT and final acceptance criteria before production.
Common Enhanced ICDP Roll Problems and First Review
An upgrade claim should be checked against the same stand, product mix and grinding definition used for the previous ICDP roll.
| SYMPTOM | POSSIBLE AREAS TO CHECK | INFORMATION NEEDED |
|---|---|---|
| Expected improvement not achieved | Grade/application match, baseline definition, product mix, cooling, campaign and grinding loss | Current and EN-ICDP roll IDs, stand data, tonnage, diameter loss and stock removed |
| Thermal checking | Cooling distribution, thermal cycling, stoppage, cobble and incomplete crack removal | Crack map, cooling/event log, campaign and grind/NDT history |
| Spalling or peeling | Surface crack growth, indentation, local overload, shell/interface condition and internal indication | Roll ID, diameter, incident history, photographs, spall depth and NDT results |
| Strip surface marks | Roll roughness, oxide/debris, thermal crown, chatter, cooling and grinding finish | Defect pitch, strip side, roll surface, roughness and process trend |
| Uneven barrel wear | Spray/header alignment, roll bending, load distribution, thermal crown and stand alignment | Axial wear profile, drive/operator-side photographs and process settings |
Safety note: visible spalling, deep or growing cracks, abnormal vibration or noise, neck distress, sudden coolant loss or a major cobble should be handled under the mill’s own safety procedure.
RFQ and Procurement Checklist
A complete RFQ reduces repeated clarification and prevents the quotation from being based only on size and hardness. The buyer’s data and the supplier’s confirmation should form one technical-commercial baseline.
